The University Art Museum presents the Geidai Collection Spring Exhibition: the Selected Masterpieces Exhibition in 2012. The Geidai collection has been formed for educational and research purposes since the Tokyo Fine Art School was founded more than 120 years ago. It consists of 28,500 works of painting, sculpture, craft and works of past professors and students, with 22 of these being designated as Important Cultural Properties. The annual collection exhibition held in spring introduces major works from ancient times to the modern era, including also newly acquired works, reflecting the history of our university and reconfirming the collection's historical importance.

Special Section 1:  Restoration of the Paintings for the Miniature Shrine of Sri-mahadevi, Joruri-ji Temple
The first section features the Important Cultural Property "Paintings for the Miniature Shrine of Sri-mahadevi, Joruri-ji Temple." In commemorating the first exhibition of this work after three years of restoration, the section also introduces related works from the Geidai collection.

Special Section 2:  The Early Days of Geidai and Commissioned Projects
The second section presented by the Geidai Archive Center focuses on the commissioned projects conducted by the Tokyo Fine Art School and Tokyo Academy of Music in the early days. By introducing related artworks and various documents, this section introduces the university's activities that have contributed to the society.

Through the over 100 works exhibited, including those exhibited in these two special sections, we hope you will enjoy a variety of works from the "Geidai collection" which has been formed since the founding times of the University.
